The company as an agent of the economy in capitalism: in a process of artistic research, Beatrix Zobl and Wolfgang Schneider investigate behind the scenes of everyday worklife in a metalworking industrial enterprise. What can be said about work – an activity that takes up a large part of our lives – that looks beneath the surface of numbers and careers? Through photography, videos, and conversations with workers, the two artists search out signs and structures. Over the course of the project, it becomes increasingly clear that their own activities are also work. COMPANY embodies the original meaning of the term: the group with which bread is shared (lat. cum pane), a society which, despite seemingly predetermined rules, is always a work in progress.
